Responsibilities
- Monitor inmate activities and enforce facility regulations to ensure safety and security
- Conduct regular patrols and headcounts; respond to emergencies and incidents promptly
- Document incidents, disciplinary actions, and daily operations accurately in digital systems
- Screen visitors and packages; maintain perimeter security and access control points
- Participate in emergency response drills and crisis intervention training
- Collaborate with healthcare and rehabilitation staff to support inmate rehabilitation programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice preferred
- Valid Virginia driver's license and ability to pass background investigation
- Ability to obtain required certifications within 90 days of hire
- Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Physical stamina to stand/walk for extended periods and meet fitness standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and correctional management software
- Previous security or law enforcement experience highly desirable
