The City of Tampa is urgently hiring an Emergency Management Specialist to join our Public Safety Division. This critical role requires immediate deployment to support hurricane preparedness and public safety initiatives. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive emergency preparedness plans for natural disasters
- Coordinate with FEMA, DHS, and local law enforcement agencies during crisis response
- Conduct risk assessments for critical infrastructure across Tampa Bay
- Train public officials and community volunteers in emergency protocols
- Manage disaster recovery grant applications and compliance reporting
- Update GIS mapping systems for evacuation routes and emergency shelters
- Lead public awareness campaigns for hurricane and flood preparedness
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in disaster response or government emergency services
- FEMAP certification or equivalent DHS emergency management credentials
- Proficiency in ESRI GIS software and emergency management platforms
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-agency crisis responses
- Valid Florida driver's license with clean record
- Ability to work 24/7 during declared emergencies
- US citizenship and ability to obtain federal security clearance
