Responsibilities
- Process Pension Applications: Review and process new pension and retirement applications for accuracy and completeness in compliance with state regulations.
- Member Inquiries: Assist members via phone and email regarding pension projections, eligibility requirements, and benefit statements.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate and confidential records in the CalPERS database, ensuring data integrity for all active and retired members.
- Benefit Calculations: Perform basic calculations for pension estimates and service credits under various retirement formulas.
- Compliance Support: Support the team in ensuring all processing adheres to state and federal labor laws and CalPERS policies.
- Documentation: Prepare and file necessary documentation for retirement packages and member correspondence.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. High school diploma with significant relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience: No prior professional experience required; however, internships in customer service, finance, or government are a plus.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with complex numbers and data.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and willingness to learn proprietary pension administration software.
- Integrity: High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical judgment.
