Responsibilities
- Manage Pension Operations: Oversee the administration and processing of the City’s retirement plans, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely benefit disbursements.
- Policy Compliance: Develop and recommend updates to pension policies to ensure strict compliance with Virginia State Retirement Systems (VSRS) and federal regulations.
- Employee Support: Serve as the primary advisor for employees regarding retirement eligibility, contribution calculations, and benefit questions.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare complex actuarial reports, monthly financial summaries, and annual presentations for the Board of Supervisors.
- Audit Coordination: Collaborate with external auditors and actuaries to ensure transparency, accuracy, and compliance during annual reviews.
- System Management: Maintain and optimize HRIS software to streamline data entry and reporting processes.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Public Administration, or a related field is required; Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPFO, CFP) is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in public sector benefits administration, pension management, or actuarial science.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in data analysis, financial modeling, and government ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Knowledge Base: In-depth understanding of Virginia State Retirement System (VSRS) statutes, FERS, and state labor laws.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data for diverse audiences.
- License: Valid Virginia Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
