Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of streets, alleys, sidewalks, and public infrastructure to ensure compliance with city codes and safety standards.
- Identify, document, and report structural deficiencies, hazardous conditions, or maintenance needs to the DPW management team.
- Coordinate with construction crews and contractors to oversee the quality of repairs and new construction projects.
- Issue citations or notices to property owners regarding violations in the public right-of-way.
- Maintain detailed, accurate records of inspection findings and corrective actions using digital reporting tools.
- Respond to resident inquiries and service requests regarding public works issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Assist in the planning and execution of large-scale municipal infrastructure projects.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in public works inspection, construction administration, or municipal administration.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Physical ability to perform field work in all weather conditions, including standing, walking, and lifting heavy objects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and GIS mapping software.
- Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with the public and city officials.
