Responsibilities
- Monitor Emergency Communications: Continuously monitor radio frequencies and telephone lines to receive incoming emergency and non-emergency calls from the public.
- Dispatch Coordination: Accurately dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services based on caller information and unit availability.
- Information Gathering: Gather and record critical details regarding incidents, including location, nature of emergency, and suspect description.
- Emergency Support: Provide pre-arrival instructions and crisis intervention to callers to ensure their safety until help arrives.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate logs of all communications, incidents, and dispatched units using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Unit Status: Monitor the status of field units and relay information to ensure efficient traffic management and response times.
- Community Relations: Answer non-emergency inquiries and provide general information to the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Licensure: Valid Texas Driver's License required.
- Vision: Corrected vision of 20/20 in each eye (color vision acceptable).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and effectively under high-stress situations.
- Typing: Demonstrated ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute accurately.
- Experience: Prior experience in customer service, public safety, or 911 dispatch preferred but not mandatory.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
