Responsibilities
- Develop and distribute public-facing communications across city channels (website, social media, press releases)
- Coordinate crisis communications protocols for emergency situations
- Manage content calendars and analytics to optimize public engagement
- Collaborate with department heads to translate complex policies into accessible messaging
- Monitor media coverage and prepare concise briefing documents
- Support community outreach events and public forums
- Maintain compliance with federal accessibility standards (Section 508)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, or related field
- 2+ years experience in public relations, government communications, or media relations
- Proficiency with CMS platforms (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) and social media analytics
- Exceptional writing/editing skills with samples for diverse audiences
- Valid New Mexico driver's license
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends for events
- U.S. citizenship and ability to pass federal background check
- Spanish bilingual proficiency preferred
