Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize the City's pension plans, including defined benefit and 401(a) programs
- Process retirement applications, calculate benefits, and manage participant communications
- Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations (ERISA, IRS, CalPERS) and internal policies
- Prepare comprehensive actuarial reports, financial statements, and regulatory filings
- Develop retirement education workshops and materials for City employees
- Collaborate with investment teams on funding strategies and risk management
- Lead system implementations for pension administration software upgrades
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of pension plan administration experience with public sector preferred
- Advanced knowledge of ERISA, IRS 415/401(a), and California pension laws
- Proficiency in pension administration systems (e.g., CalPERS, Oracle HCM)
- Strong analytical skills with experience in benefit calculations and financial modeling
- SPHR, CEBS, or QKA certification highly desirable
- Exceptional communication skills for stakeholder engagement and training delivery
