Responsibilities
- Administer city pension plans including eligibility calculations, benefit distributions, and compliance with government regulations
- Process daily payroll transactions for retirement fund contributions and disbursements
- Conduct audits of pension records to ensure accuracy and regulatory adherence
- Develop financial reports for city council and pension board meetings
- Advise employees on retirement planning, 401(k) options, and pension benefits
- Coordinate with external auditors and legal counsel for compliance reviews
- Implement policy updates based on federal/state pension law changes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in pension fund administration or government finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Pension Fund Specialist (PFS) designation preferred
- Proficiency in government accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
- Deep understanding of ERISA, IRS 401(k) regulations, and Texas pension laws
- Exceptional analytical skills with attention to financial detail
- Strong communication abilities for employee consultations and board presentations
