Responsibilities
- Administer state pension plans including contribution calculations, benefit distributions, and retirement eligibility verification
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and Colorado state pension statutes
- Conduct complex actuarial valuations and financial reporting for multi-billion dollar retirement funds
- Develop and implement pension policy improvements aligned with legislative changes
- Provide expert guidance to state agencies, retirees, and beneficiaries regarding retirement options
- Collaborate with auditors during annual financial examinations and compliance reviews
- Manage pension system databases and maintain accurate participant records
- Lead cross-departmental projects to modernize pension administration systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in pension plan administration or benefits management
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a)/403(b) regulations, and state retirement systems
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Oracle HCM, PeopleSoft)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data and actuarial reports
- Professional certification (e.g., CEBS, QKA, or CPA) preferred
- Experience with Colorado PERA or similar state retirement systems highly desirable
- Exceptional communication skills for stakeholder education and policy development
