As a trainee, you will be provided with all necessary equipment, including uniforms, radios, and dispatch consoles.
In this role, you will serve as the critical link between the public and our first responders. You will learn to manage high-pressure situations, prioritize incoming calls efficiently, and ensure the safety of El Paso citizens. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate exceptional communication skills, composure under stress, and a strong desire to serve.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and law enforcement personnel.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units to incident locations using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Monitor and update the status of all units in the field via radio and digital communication tools.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all dispatch activities, logs, and incident reports.
- Assist in the training of new dispatchers and ensure compliance with departmental communication protocols.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as data entry and report generation, during non-peak hours.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to type 40-50 words per minute accurately.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a clear speaking voice.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick, effective decisions in high-stress situations.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check, drug screen, and medical examination.
