Responsibilities
- Process emergency and non-emergency calls with exceptional speed and accuracy
- Dispatch police units using CAD/RMS systems during critical incidents
- Maintain detailed logs and incident documentation for legal compliance
- Coordinate multi-agency responses during natural disasters or large-scale events
- Operate radio systems, telephones, and specialized communication equipment
- Provide crisis intervention and pre-arrival medical instructions via telephone
- Complete mandatory dispatcher certification training modules
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM (verified by test)
- U.S. citizenship and valid California driver's license
- Pass extensive background investigation and polygraph examination
- Clear speaking voice with excellent diction and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under extreme pressure and multitask
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence charges
- Basic computer proficiency with willingness to learn specialized software
