Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, prioritize incidents, and dispatch appropriate law enforcement resources
- Maintain accurate radio logs and incident documentation using CAD/RMS systems
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers during medical or crisis situations
- Coordinate with other agencies (fire, EMS, hospitals) during multi-jurisdictional incidents
- Operate communication equipment including radios, telephones, and computer-aided dispatch systems
- Remain calm and professional during high-stress emergency situations
- Adhere to strict confidentiality policies and departmental protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with accuracy
- No felony convictions and clean driving record
- Ability to pass extensive background check and polygraph examination
- Strong multitasking skills with ability to handle multiple simultaneous calls
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Windows OS
- Excellent verbal communication and active listening abilities
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
