Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency/non-emergency calls via 911 and administrative lines
- Operate Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and radio communication systems
- Provide clear, concise instructions to callers during emergency situations
- Coordinate with police, fire, and medical agencies during critical incidents
- Maintain accurate call logs and documentation per department protocols
- Assist in training new dispatchers after completing probationary period
- Participate in continuous emergency preparedness drills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 18 years of age at time of appointment
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 90% accuracy
- Ability to pass comprehensive background investigation and polygraph
- Valid California Driver's License (Class C)
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history
