Responsibilities
- Receive and Prioritize Calls: Answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, assessing the situation to determine the appropriate response level.
- Resource Dispatch: Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to the scene with speed and accuracy.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Maintain continuous radio communication and provide real-time status updates to field units regarding traffic, weather, and incident developments.
- Documentation: Accurately enter and maintain incident reports, case files, and CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system data.
- Caller Assistance: Provide clear, concise instructions to callers while remaining calm to help de-escalate situations.
- Interagency Collaboration: Coordinate with other regional public safety agencies during multi-jurisdictional events or major incidents.
- Shift Coverage: Perform duties across various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Driver's License: Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license with a good driving record.
- Typing Speed: Ability to type a minimum of 35-40 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Background Check: Must pass a thorough background investigation, including a criminal history check and polygraph examination.
- Stress Tolerance: Ability to remain composed and make quick, sound decisions under high-pressure and stressful conditions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly over radio and phone systems.
- Availability: Willingness to work rotating shifts, holidays, and on-call duties.
