Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls via 911 and non-emergency lines
- Dispatch police units using CAD systems with precise location and incident details
- Maintain accurate logs of all communications and activities per department protocols
- Provide clear, calm instructions to callers during critical incidents
- Coordinate with other agencies (EMS, Fire) during multi-jurisdictional emergencies
- Operate radio equipment and computer-aided dispatch systems
- Complete comprehensive training modules on department procedures and crisis management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- No prior dispatch or public safety experience required
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and polygraph examination
- Strong typing skills (minimum 35 WPM)
- Exceptional communication and active listening abilities
- Ability to remain calm under high-pressure situations
- Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn technical systems
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old
