Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with high accuracy and empathy, assessing the situation and prioritizing resources.
- Unit Dispatching: Utilize advanced CAD systems to dispatch police, fire, and EMS units to the correct location with vital information.
- Radio Monitoring: Monitor police radio frequencies and CCTV feeds to maintain situational awareness and provide real-time updates to field units.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, detailed logs of all calls, incidents, and dispatches for legal and historical reference.
- Information Relay: Relay critical information to callers, including status updates, while maintaining caller composure and safety.
- Training Support: Assist in training new dispatchers and participate in ongoing certification and simulation exercises.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
- License: Valid New York State driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Typing: Demonstrated typing proficiency of at least 45 words per minute.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Availability: Must be available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship or legal working status required.
