Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls from the public using multi-line phone systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software
- Accurately assess caller information and prioritize incidents for police response
- Dispatch officers, fire, and medical personnel to emergency locations using radio communication
- Maintain detailed logs of all communications and activities in compliance with department protocols
- Provide critical information to responding officers and coordinate multi-agency responses
- Operate various emergency communication equipment and computer systems
- Assist in training new dispatchers and updating departmental procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph examination
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with accuracy
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Clear speaking voice and excellent communication skills in English
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions during high-stress situations
- Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen
- No felony convictions and good driving record
