Responsibilities
- Answer Incoming Calls: Receive emergency (911) and non-emergency calls from the public and internal units, assessing situations to determine the appropriate response.
- Dispatch Operations: Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to input data, track units in the field, and dispatch police, fire, and EMS resources to incidents efficiently.
- Radio Communication: Maintain clear and professional two-way radio communication with field officers, relaying vital information and status updates in real-time.
- Information Management: Accurately record and update incident reports, logs, and status messages in the department's records management system.
- Coordinate Resources: Act as the central point of contact between callers and responding units, ensuring a seamless flow of information to reduce response times.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in maintaining emergency preparedness drills and procedures to ensure the communications center is always ready for any situation.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Licensure: Valid Florida Driverβs License with a safe driving record required.
- Background: Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical exam.
- Skills: Strong computer literacy and typing skills (minimum 30-40 WPM) with the ability to learn new software quickly.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm and professional under extreme pressure.
