As a Police Dispatcher, you will serve as the lifeline between the public and law enforcement officers in the field. You will manage critical information, coordinate emergency responses, and ensure the safety of our community. Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, gather essential information, and determine the nature and priority of the incident.
- Dispatch Officers: Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to effectively communicate with field personnel, providing real-time updates and instructions.
- Document Information: Accurately log all call details, status updates, and resource deployments into departmental records.
- Monitor Systems: Monitor police radio frequencies, fire alarms, and surveillance equipment to detect and respond to potential threats or emergencies.
- Coordinate Resources: Communicate with other emergency services, including fire and medical units, to facilitate multi-agency responses when necessary.
- Provide Support: Offer general information to the public and assist callers in distress until help arrives.
Qualifications
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Background Check: Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a criminal history check, drug screen, and polygraph examination.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely over the radio.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
- Stress Management: Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and handle high-stress situations effectively.
