Job Description
Join Detroit's Public Works Department as a Public Works Inspector and play a vital role in maintaining our city's infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to directly impact community safety and urban development through hands-on project oversight and compliance enforcement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of construction projects ensuring compliance with city codes and specifications
- Review engineering plans and blueprints for accuracy and regulatory alignment
- Document inspection findings and prepare detailed compliance reports
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and city officials to resolve code violations
- Issue permits and enforce corrective actions for non-compliance issues
- Utilize GIS mapping software to track project progress and infrastructure status
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in civil engineering or construction technology preferred
- Minimum 3 years of construction inspection experience
- ICC Certification (Building Inspector or Plans Examiner) required
- Valid Michigan driver's license with clean driving record
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite
- Knowledge of Michigan Building Code and ADA standards
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
