Responsibilities
- Administer and manage the City's pension plans including retirement, disability, and survivor benefits
- Process benefit applications and ensure compliance with federal/state regulations (ERISA, IRS codes)
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports and actuarial valuations for pension funds
- Provide expert consultation to employees and retirees regarding pension benefits and options
- Collaborate with auditors, legal counsel, and investment committees during annual reviews
- Develop and implement pension policy improvements aligned with best practices
- Monitor legislative changes affecting public pensions and recommend adjustments
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in pension plan administration or benefits management
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS regulations, and Texas pension laws
- Proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, AdminPro)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder interactions
- SPBA, CBP, or CERA certification preferred
- Public sector or municipal finance experience highly desirable
