Join NYC's frontline heroes! The Department of Sanitation is seeking dedicated Sanitation Workers to maintain the cleanliness and safety of our city's streets. This vital role directly impacts community health and urban quality of life through efficient waste collection and public service.
Responsibilities
- Operate sanitation trucks and mechanical equipment for residential/commercial waste collection
- Perform manual lifting of heavy containers (up to 50 lbs) in all weather conditions
- Conduct street sweeping, snow removal, and emergency response operations
- Complete daily service logs and report maintenance issues
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and OSHA standards
- Provide courteous customer service to residents and businesses
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Class B CDL permit (or ability to obtain within 60 days)
- Ability to pass physical fitness assessment including strength/endurance tests
- No felony convictions; clean driving record
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Residency in NYC preferred (within 5 boroughs)
- Bilingual English/Spanish or other NYC languages highly valued
