The City of Oakland is seeking a visionary and technically proficient Senior Information Technology Specialist (GIS) to join our Information Technology Department. Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex GIS mapping applications and databases.
- Collaborate with urban planners, civil engineers, and public safety officials to integrate spatial data into city operations.
- Provide advanced technical support and training to city staff regarding GIS tools and data interpretation.
- Ensure the integrity, security, and compliance of all geographic data with state and federal standards.
- Perform complex spatial analyses and generate high-quality visualizations for city council presentations.
- Manage project lifecycles, including requirements gathering, development, and deployment of GIS solutions.
- Optimize system performance and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in GIS analysis, software development, and database management.
- Advanced proficiency in Esri ArcGIS Suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) is required.
- Strong skills in SQL, Python, and web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) are highly preferred.
- Experience working within a public sector or government environment is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
