Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the maintenance, upgrade, and security of local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) for city departments.
- System Administration: Manage and troubleshoot server environments, operating systems, and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware).
- Cybersecurity Compliance: Enforce security protocols and conduct vulnerability assessments to protect sensitive government data.
- Vendor Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for third-party IT vendors and service providers.
- Project Leadership: Lead technical teams in the deployment of new software solutions and hardware upgrades.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in IT systems administration or network engineering.
- Certifications: Active certification such as CompTIA Security+, CCNA, or similar is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python, AWS, or Azure is a plus.
- Residency: Must be a resident of the City of Boston.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical staff.
