We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior IT Project Manager to join the City of San Diego’s forward-thinking technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of IT projects, ensuring alignment with city goals, regulatory standards, and budget constraints. You will serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, fostering collaboration between technical teams and non-technical department heads to drive efficiency and innovation in public service.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the end-to-end lifecycle of complex IT infrastructure projects from conception to delivery, ensuring timely completion.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope, timeline, budget, and resource allocation using Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
- Facilitate communication between technical staff, city officials, and external vendors to ensure project objectives are met and stakeholder expectations are managed.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring strict compliance with federal, state, and local government regulations and policies.
- Monitor project performance metrics to ensure deliverables meet quality standards and stay within allocated budgets.
- Conduct regular stakeholder presentations and status updates to maintain transparency and alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT project management within the public sector or government administration.
- Proven experience managing budgets exceeding $1M and leading cross-functional teams.
- Strong proficiency in MS Project, JIRA, or similar project management tools.
- PMP, PgMP, or CAPM certification is highly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical jargon for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
