Responsibilities
- Manage Pension Administration: Oversee the daily operations of the state pension plan, including calculating benefits, processing claims, and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Compliance & Regulation: Ensure all pension activities adhere to federal laws (ERISA), state statutes, and internal government policies.
- Retiree Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for retirees and beneficiaries, addressing inquiries regarding eligibility, vesting, and distribution options.
- Data Analysis: Analyze complex financial data to identify trends, resolve discrepancies in payroll or benefit calculations, and prepare detailed reports for management.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with IT and HR departments to streamline pension processing workflows and improve system accuracy.
- Legal Coordination: Assist the legal team with audits, investigations into benefit fraud, and preparation for litigation or regulatory reviews.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Public Administration, Accounting, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or government benefits management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel required) and experience with HRIS or pension administration software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of ERISA regulations, state retirement systems, and actuarial valuation principles.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
