Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily administration of the City's defined benefit pension plans, ensuring accurate record-keeping and disbursements.
- Conduct thorough actuarial analysis and financial modeling to assess plan sustainability and recommend necessary adjustments.
- Ensure strict compliance with ERISA regulations, state pension laws, and internal government auditing standards.
- Provide expert consultation and support to retirees, beneficiaries, and city department heads regarding pension eligibility, calculations, and benefit inquiries.
- Prepare detailed reports for the Board of Retirement and City Administration regarding fund performance and actuarial valuations.
- Collaborate with external auditors and actuaries to facilitate annual audits and valuation processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Public Administration, Actuarial Science, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, government benefits, or actuarial analysis.
- Deep understanding of ERISA, FRS, and California Public Employee Retirement Systems (CalPERS) regulations.
- Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, Macros) and actuarial software (e.g., Milliman, Mercer).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service and diplomacy.
