Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive examinations of New York State corporate and individual income tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze complex financial records and data to identify discrepancies, underpayments, or fraudulent activities.
- Prepare and issue Notices of Deficiency, correspondence, and legal documents to taxpayers and third-party representatives.
- Interview taxpayers, attorneys, and accountants to gather information and explain tax laws and procedures.
- Collaborate with other state agencies and law enforcement units to investigate tax-related crimes.
- Maintain accurate and detailed case files and documentation in accordance with state regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Professional certification (CPA, EA, or CMA) is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax auditing, accounting, or tax preparation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and tax research software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
