Responsibilities
- Manage and process complex pension benefit calculations, including retirement estimates, annuity computations, and survivor benefits.
- Conduct thorough reviews of eligibility documentation to ensure strict compliance with DC Government and federal regulations (ERISA).
- Provide expert consultation and customer service to retirees, beneficiaries, and active employees regarding pension inquiries.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll records and pension contributions to ensure data integrity.
- Prepare and maintain accurate statistical reports and actuarial documentation for internal and external audits.
- Collaborate with the IT department to optimize pension administration software and workflow processes.
- Stay abreast of changes in federal and state pension laws to ensure the district's plan remains compliant.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, government benefits, or actuarial science.
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) and other applicable government regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) and pension administration software.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and legal text.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a federal background investigation.
