Responsibilities
- Conduct intake interviews and provide comprehensive counseling to Veterans regarding benefits, compensation, and pension claims.
- Process and adjudicate benefit applications in strict accordance with VA regulations, laws, and policies.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential case files for all assigned Veterans.
- Assist Veterans in navigating the appeals process and resolving complex issues or discrepancies.
- Coordinate with medical professionals, legal counsel, and other agencies to ensure holistic support for Veterans.
- Utilize VA-specific case management software to document interactions and update status reports.
- Stay current on changes in federal legislation and VA procedures to provide accurate guidance.
Qualifications
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
- Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level, which demonstrates knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
- Education: A four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major study in a field such as public administration, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies related to Veterans Affairs.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with case management systems.
