Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of commercial and residential properties to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes.
- Review blueprints, architectural plans, and specifications to verify adherence to safety standards and zoning regulations.
- Issue permits, citations, and stop-work orders when violations are detected; ensure violations are rectified promptly.
- Provide clear and professional guidance to contractors, architects, and the general public regarding construction requirements.
- Document all inspection findings, maintain accurate records in the department’s database, and prepare detailed reports.
- Collaborate with the Planning Department and other municipal agencies to resolve complex code enforcement issues.
- Respond to weekend emergency calls regarding building safety and structural integrity as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in building inspection, architecture, or a related construction discipline.
- Valid Florida Class B Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of Florida Building Code, International Residential Code (IRC), and related safety regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently during weekend shifts and holidays.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and inspection management software.
