Job Summary:
The Government Clerk performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to support the efficient operation of city departments. This role acts as the first point of contact for the public and internal staff, requiring a professional demeanor and exceptional organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Receive and direct visitors and incoming calls, providing accurate information and courteous assistance.
- Process applications, permits, forms, and documents with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Maintain and organize filing systems, ensuring both physical and digital records are secure and easily retrievable.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, agendas, and meeting minutes.
- Assist the public with inquiries regarding city services, procedures, and policies.
- Operate office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, and fax machines.
- Perform data entry and update records in various city databases.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in an office environment, clerical work, or customer service is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Must be able to pass a background check and a drug screen.
