Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Municipal Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate garbage trucks, street sweepers, and other heavy machinery for daily collection and maintenance routes.
- Solid Waste Management: Collect and dispose of solid waste, recyclables, and yard trimmings in compliance with city sanitation codes and environmental standards.
- Street Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on public right-of-ways, including pothole repairs, line striping, and vegetation management.
- Snow & Ice Control: Respond swiftly during inclement weather to clear snow and ice from roadways, ensuring public safety and accessibility.
- Equipment Inspection & Repair: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure mechanical integrity and report necessary repairs.
- Community Engagement: Interact courteously with residents and businesses, answering inquiries regarding collection schedules and city services.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA safety regulations and City of Austin safety protocols at all times.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Licensure: Valid Class C Texas Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record required.
- Experience: Previous experience in sanitation, landscaping, or municipal operations is preferred but not mandatory; on-the-job training will be provided.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly; ability to work in various weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, cold); good vision and hearing.
- Technical Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to read and understand safety manuals and equipment schematics.
- Soft Skills: Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.
