Responsibilities
- Monitor inmate activities and enforce facility protocols during overnight shifts to ensure maximum security
- Conduct regular patrols and headcounts to prevent contraband and maintain safety standards
- Respond swiftly to emergencies, altercations, and medical incidents with de-escalation expertise
- Document incidents, maintain accurate logs, and prepare detailed reports for legal compliance
- Operate security systems including CCTV monitoring, access controls, and perimeter checks
- Transport inmates between facilities and court appearances following strict protocols
- Mentor and rehabilitate inmates through structured programs during non-peak operational hours
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent with minimum 21 years of age
- Valid Virginia driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to pass rigorous background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
- Completion of state-approved correctional officer training program
- Physical readiness to handle emergencies, including lifting 50+ lbs and prolonged standing
- Exceptional communication skills for interacting with diverse populations
