Responsibilities

  • Receive, screen, and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service via radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) units to incidents based on location, type of call, and available resources.
  • Enter and update incident reports, suspect descriptions, and status information into CAD systems with high accuracy and speed.
  • Monitor radio frequencies and maintain situational awareness of ongoing police, fire, and medical activities within the jurisdiction.
  • Provide vital information to field personnel and request additional resources as needed during complex incidents.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of all dispatched activities and communication.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License or equivalent by date of hire.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
  • Ability to maintain emotional composure under extreme pressure and stressful situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Strong typing skills and proficiency with computer systems.
