The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Federal Pension Specialist to join our team in Columbus, Ohio. In this role, you will play a critical part in advising federal employees on their retirement benefits, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and maintaining the integrity of the nation's pension system.

Responsibilities
- Conduct Pension Eligibility Reviews: Analyze federal employee records to determine eligibility for Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) benefits, including survivor benefits and deferred annuities.
- Provide Expert Benefits Counseling: Offer personalized guidance to federal employees and retirees regarding pension calculations, medical benefits, and survivor annuities.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Review pension applications and documentation to ensure strict adherence to OPM regulations, the Retirement Act, and agency policies.
- Process Retirement Claims: Accurately input and process retirement applications, ensuring data integrity and timely resolution of inquiries.
- Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Support: Assist federal employees with TSP contributions, loan applications, and investment consultations.
- Collaborate with HR Teams: Work closely with agency HR offices to resolve complex pension discrepancies and provide training on retirement processes.
- Document Management: Maintain accurate, confidential, and organized records of all pension interactions and financial transactions.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in pension administration, benefits counseling, or federal HR operations.
- Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of FERS, CSRS, OPM retirement rules, and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex federal regulations and apply them to specific employee scenarios.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust background clearance.
- Schedule: Must be available to work 20-25 hours per week on a flexible schedule.
