Responsibilities
- Pension Administration: Manage and process retirement applications, benefit calculations, and monthly pension payments for state employees.
- Customer Service: Provide expert guidance and support to retirees and active employees regarding pension inquiries, eligibility, and benefit statements.
- Compliance & Accuracy: Ensure all pension records and transactions comply with federal (ERISA) and state regulations, maintaining a 99.9% accuracy rate.
- System Management: Update and maintain employee pension records in the state’s retirement database, including corrections and adjustments.
- Process Improvement: Assist in the development and documentation of pension procedures to streamline operations for both staff and beneficiaries.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the HR and Payroll departments to resolve complex pension discrepancies and coordinate audits.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Public Administration; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in pension administration, retirement planning, or government benefits processing.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and experience with government database systems or ERISA regulations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Attention to Detail: Highly analytical mindset with a focus on data integrity and error prevention.
- Flexibility: Ability to work part-time hours (20-30 hours per week) and adapt to changing priorities within a government environment.
