Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and radio communications equipment 24/7.
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public and law enforcement officers.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel to appropriate locations based on unit availability and incident severity.
- Enter and maintain accurate, detailed records of calls, incidents, and unit status in the department's database.
- Provide critical information, directions, and instructions to field personnel during active incidents.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel and cross-train in related emergency services functions.
- Stay updated on departmental policies, local geography, and emergency procedures to ensure efficient operations.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Ability to multitask effectively, prioritize tasks, and remain calm under high-pressure situations.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
