Responsibilities
- Administer defined benefit pension plans for 800,000+ government employees with precision and regulatory compliance
- Process retirement applications, calculate benefits, and manage member records using pension software systems
- Conduct plan audits, financial reporting, and actuarial valuations to ensure plan health
- Provide expert guidance to retirees, employers, and members on pension policies and procedures
- Coordinate with legal counsel and state agencies to implement policy changes and legislative updates
- Develop educational materials and conduct workshops on retirement planning topics
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field required
- 3+ years of pension plan administration or benefits management experience
- Strong knowledge of ERISA, IRS regulations, and North Carolina pension statutes
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and pension administration software (e.g., Oracle, Empower)
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail for complex financial calculations
- Professional certification (CEBS, QKA, or CPA) preferred
- Ability to manage competing priorities and communicate technical concepts clearly
