Join the City of San Jose's Finance Department as a Pension Plan Administrator and play a pivotal role in managing retirement benefits for public sector employees. This senior position oversees pension fund operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and advises stakeholders on retirement planning strategies. Responsibilities
- Administer defined benefit pension plans including contribution calculations, benefit projections, and retirement processing
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) requirements
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, actuarial valuations, and regulatory filings
- Develop and implement pension investment strategies aligned with fiduciary standards
- Advise management on pension-related legislation, policy changes, and risk mitigation
- Manage vendor relationships with recordkeepers, actuaries, and investment advisors
- Conduct employee education workshops on retirement planning and benefit options
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field; MBA or relevant certification preferred
- Minimum 5 years of pension plan administration experience in public sector or regulated environments
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a), 415, and CalPERS regulations
- Proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Milliman, Mercer, or similar)
- Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and actuarial concepts
- Certified Public Pension Administrator (CPPA) or similar designation required
- Excellent communication skills for presenting complex financial data to diverse stakeholders
