Responsibilities
- Administer and monitor pension plans in strict compliance with federal/state regulations and IRS guidelines
- Process retirement applications, calculate benefits, and disburse pension payments accurately
- Conduct regular audits of pension investments and financial records to ensure fiduciary responsibility
- Provide expert guidance to employees and retirees regarding pension options, benefits, and legislative changes
- Collaborate with finance, HR, and legal teams to develop pension policy improvements
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports for city council and regulatory bodies
- Stay current on pension legislation and recommend strategic adjustments to plan sustainability
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Public Administration, Accounting, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of pension administration or benefits management experience
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a), Texas pension laws, and fiduciary standards
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, NGAGE)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data and regulations
- Excellent written/verbal communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Certified Public Pension Administrator (CPPA) designation highly desirable
