Responsibilities
- Administer defined benefit pension plans including eligibility calculations, benefit projections, and retirement processing
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) policies
- Manage participant communications regarding retirement options, plan documents, and legislative updates
- Conduct audits and reconciliation of pension fund accounts with third-party administrators
- Collaborate with finance teams to prepare annual reports and actuarial valuations
- Develop and implement process improvements for pension administration workflows
- Train HR staff and state employees on retirement planning and benefits
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of pension plan administration experience in public sector
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a) regulations, and CalPERS guidelines
- Proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., PeopleSoft, UltiPro)
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) or Society of Actuaries (SOA) designation
- Strong analytical skills with attention to financial detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Valid California State Driver's License
