Responsibilities
- Administer defined benefit pension plans for 100,000+ active and retired state employees
- Process retirement applications, benefit calculations, and distribution payments
- Ensure compliance with federal (ERISA) and state pension regulations
- Conduct audits of retirement accounts and financial records
- Develop educational materials for participants on retirement options
- Collaborate with finance teams on annual funding valuations
- Respond to participant inquiries regarding benefits and policy changes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of pension administration or benefits management experience
- Proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Empower, Alight)
- Deep understanding of ERISA, IRS 401(k) regulations, and state pension laws
- Strong analytical skills with attention to financial detail
- Excellent communication abilities for stakeholder interactions
- Government/public sector background preferred
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) designation a plus
