Responsibilities
- Administer pension benefits calculations and disbursement processes for 15,000+ active and retired beneficiaries
- Ensure compliance with IRS, ERISA, and Illinois Pension Code regulations through quarterly audits
- Analyze fund performance data and recommend investment strategy adjustments to the board
- Develop and maintain participant communication materials explaining pension benefits and eligibility
- Collaborate with HR departments across 50+ city agencies to resolve pension-related inquiries
- Implement new pension administration software and digitize legacy records
- Prepare annual actuarial reports and financial statements for municipal review
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or Public Administration required
- 5+ years of pension plan administration experience with public sector or multi-employer plans
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) or Society of Actuaries (SOA) designation preferred
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Oracle HCM, Milliman)
- Expert knowledge of ERISA, IRC 414, and Illinois Pension Code regulations
- Experience with hybrid work environments and remote collaboration tools
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills for stakeholder reporting
