Responsibilities
- Receive and Process 911 Calls: Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with empathy and speed, accurately gathering critical information.
- Dispatch Emergency Units: Coordinate the response of police, fire, and medical units using the CAD system.
- Maintain Radio Communications: Monitor radio channels to ensure all units are informed of changing situations and traffic.
- Enter Data Accurately: Log all calls, incidents, and unit movements into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system with high typing proficiency.
- Escalate Critical Issues: Identify and immediately escalate situations requiring specialized units or executive assistance.
- Support Special Projects: Assist in community outreach and internal department training during off-peak hours.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; some college preferred.
- Experience: No prior dispatch experience required for Trainee status, but previous customer service experience is a major plus.
- Skills: Exceptional typing skills (35+ WPM), strong verbal and written communication skills.
- License: Valid Colorado Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Physical: Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive motions at a computer workstation.
- Personality: Ability to remain calm and professional under extreme pressure and stress.
