Responsibilities
- Answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incidents using radio and computer systems.
- Enter and maintain accurate data in CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) and RMS (Records Management System).
- Monitor status of units in the field and coordinate resource allocation.
- Provide information and assistance to callers in a calm, professional, and empathetic manner.
- Assist in the training of new dispatchers and mentor junior staff.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License (or ability to obtain) with a satisfactory driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely under pressure.
- Ability to type 35+ words per minute.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, and medical examination.
