As a key member of our Emergency Communications Division, you'll handle emergency calls, dispatch units, and maintain critical incident documentation. Our 12-week paid training program covers radio operations, CAD systems, crisis intervention, and multi-agency coordination. Upon completion, you'll be eligible for full certification as a Police Dispatcher with the City of Portland.
Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with professionalism and accuracy
- Dispatch police units and emergency services using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
- Maintain detailed records of all communications and incidents
- Operate radio equipment and multi-channel communication systems
- Provide critical information to responding officers and other agencies
- Remain calm and composed during high-stress emergency situations
- Coordinate with other public safety departments (fire, EMS) during multi-agency incidents
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- U.S. citizenship or legal resident status
- Ability to pass comprehensive background check and drug screening
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to multitask and make critical decisions under pressure
- Basic computer proficiency with willingness to learn specialized systems
- Clear speaking voice and ability to use radio equipment properly
