Responsibilities
- Answer and prioritize emergency/non-emergency calls using CAD systems
- Dispatch police/fire/EMS units with precise location and incident details
- Maintain radio communication with field units during active incidents
- Enter and update critical information in RMS databases
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to callers
- Coordinate multi-agency responses during major incidents
- Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and radio equipment
- Document all interactions and incidents per department protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 18 years of age (21 preferred for full certification)
- Pass background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 90% accuracy
- Ability to multitask in high-pressure emergency situations
- Clear speaking voice with excellent verbal communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency with Windows OS
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence charges
