Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, rapidly assess situations, and dispatch appropriate police units
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all communications in CAD/RMS systems
- Provide critical pre-arrival instructions to callers during medical emergencies
- Coordinate with multiple agencies including fire, EMS, and other law enforcement
- Operate radio systems, emergency alert platforms, and specialized communication equipment
- Remain calm and professional during high-stress crisis situations
- Participate in continuous training to maintain proficiency in protocols and procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; college coursework in criminal justice preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with 95% accuracy
- Valid North Carolina driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to pass thorough background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to de-escalate tense situations
- Proficiency with computer systems and multitasking in fast-paced environments
- No criminal history (felony convictions or serious misdemeanors disqualify)
- Must be a U.S. citizen and meet residency requirements
